Backpackers get ready, your adventure is about to begin...
The Path of the Gods
A truly divine path connects Bomerano, a hamlet of Agerola, to Nocelle, a small suburb of Positano: you'll experience 7 km of infinite beauty and sensational pleasure.
The route, which reaches altitudes of 650 meters above sea level, is a pleasant and breathtaking walk: once you have arrived at Nocelle, you can see the cliffs plunging into the sea, the Li Galli islets, Punta Campanella, and Capri. The highlight of the route is just before reaching Nocelle when you catch a glimpse of Positano appearing and disappearing behind the coast along the walk. A just reward for your efforts!
The Bay of Ieranto
Located in the heart of the protected marine area of Punta Campanella, the Bay of Ieranto is a mystical place, whose charm has inspired millenia of poets and artists.
According to Homer, it was here where the Sirens lured Ulysses with their tempting song and still now, if you pay attention, the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks in the distance recalls this ancient myth. The four hour long path is captivating and will seduce you with views sweeping over the deep blue Mediterranean.
The path leading to the Bay of Ieranto begins in Nerano, a suburb of Massa Lubrense, and proceeds over flat ground for about a mile. The gentle natural landscape changes quite suddenly and you will find yourself immersed in the wild Mediterranean brush, which boasts views over Capri, Punta Campanella, the shoreline of the Amalfi Coast, and of Li Galli islets.
The Sanctuary of Avvocata
Follow the footsteps of ancient pilgrims from Maiori to the Sanctuary dell'Avvocata along an uphill path that leads you to 800 meters above sea level on top of the Mount Falesia. There you find the peaceful hermitage overlooking the magnificent Gulf of Salerno.
Built in 1485, the sanctuary is still a pilgrimage destination for the faithful who, each Monday after Pentecost, gather here from across the region of Campania and beyond.
The footpath begins with a flight of steps along Via Casale Alto in Maiori and, after a walk through vineyards and citrus groves, you'll reach the Acqua del Castagno spring, where you can refresh yourself before beginning your mountain climb. After 5 kilometers, you'll pass the Grottone Cave and then arrive at the Sanctuary complex.
The Tower of Ziro
A pleasant 5 kilometer walk will take you to a symbol of the troubled history of Amalfi: the Tower of Ziro, an ancient watchtower which guarded against Saracen pirates which was also the site of one of the bloodiest massacres Amalfi has ever known: the assassination of The Duchess of Amalfi Giovanna D'Aragona and her children, horribly murdered at the beginning of the 16th century.
The walks begins at Pontone, a small suburb of Scala: take the steps in Via Fritto near the town square, and follow the winding route along the road up to the defense walls of the Dukedom of Amalfi and its fortress, surrounded by a pine wood. Here the imposingTower of the Ziro stands out, exactly halfway between Ravello and Amalfi.
After visiting the tower, you can take the stairs that lead from Pontone to the center of Atrani.
